Til We Reach That Day

I'll keep on moving. Keep on Smiling. Keep on hoping. Til We Reach That Day.

Am I Crazy? I might end up Crazy…

“Insane. Psycho. Out of your mind. Losing it. Falling apart. Crazy.” Why does anyone deserve to be labled by these terms? Why are we, as a society, so quick to lable a person crazy and move right along to the next issue? Why is a simple difference in behavior, possibly a sadness or an anger caused by life at home….or life in general, so incredibly looked down upon? It’s no wonder it’s almost impossible for a person to climb back up once they’ve fallen off the edge. Because climbing is hard…and on your own…it’s impossible. But people that aren’t dealing with issues that can set you off the edge, become irritated with those who are. Classic. Someone is different from the “norm.”, so you dismiss them as though they don’t even exist. As though they’re not even human.

The answer always seems to be, “Send them to a psychiatrist. Throw medicine at them. At least it will keep them from feeling certain ways. At least it will numb them out, so they don’t do anything irrational. And then…even if they no longer feel human…at least they’ll be out of our hair.” …Always the answer.

No. This is never the answer. Rather, it is an excuse. An excuse to be lazy and avoid the issue at hand. We don’t face reality; we turn away from it, and by turning away from reality, we are turning away from millions of people that need us. To listen. To help. To love. To face them as what they are…and as what we all are. Human beings. It is in my opinion that a person’s mental, physical, internal, or external condition does not in any way determine whether or not they are human.

Humans are described by so much more than the issues they face within themselves. You are human if you can be happy, and if you can be sad. You are human if you can laugh, and also if you can cry. You are human if something can touch you and make your heart ache. You are human if you can care for, and if you can be cared for. You are human if you can love…but also if you can hate. Humans are absolutly and breathtakingly beautiful, no matter how many flaws they have. They are alive. They are breathing. And they are all around.

No condition, no difference could ever shut out a person’s existence as a human. No matter how many times they’ve been told they’re “crazy.” No matter how many people have told them they don’t belong. We all belong. No one person is more “important”, more “normal”, or more “human” than another. There is nothing in this world that can seperate us other than ourselves. And so our goal must be to bring eachother together, so that no one even has a chance of falling off the edge. So no one even has a chance to wonder, “Am I crazy?” Because in the end…

We all are.
